75 Years of Togetherness
A New Beginning Amidst A Pandemic
Fall brings Indian bloom to Jesse Hall
The MU Cultural Association of India conducted its first cultural event after Mizzou suspended in-person classes due to COVID-19. The event ran late into the night, giving me about an hour to edit the images before the print deadline. I worked with the photographer Zachary Linhares to edit the photographs and build a web longform. Editor Irynka Hromotska and I collaborated with designer Heeral Patel to design the print page.
Maybe next time: Missouri crumbles to Kansas
Missouri's men's basketball faced Kansas for the first time since 2012, which they had lost to Kansas in overtime. Jean Beansan captured some fantastic moments from the game that I co-edited with Megan Matty.
Hidden encampments create community for those without homes
For almost a month, photographer Zachary Linhares worked on a story on homeless encampments in Columbia, MO. Editors Michelle Gutierrez and Nicole Gutierrez supported the production of the project. I collaborated with them to edit and design a web longform presentation.
Missouri falls short of Boston College in overtime
Picture Editor Megan Matty and I worked as the sports editors for the Missourian in fall 2021. During Missouri's football game against Boston College, we could not dispatch our staff photographer to cover the game. So we selected relevant photographs from AP Newsroom to accompany live score updates on Missourian's website. After the game, we build a longform web presentation by choosing pictures from AP Newsroom.
Missouri trampled in loss against undefeated Georgia
During Missouri's away game against Georgia, photographer Olivia Anderson filed pictures from Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The workflow for away games is different than home games. We guided the photographer about the game-day logistics and walked them through the photo filing process. At the end of each quarter, the photographer ingested the photos, from which we made our final edit and the built longform web presentation.
A Heartbreaking Bowl
Winter break had commenced when Missouri played Army during the Armed Forces Bowl Game. During the winter break, there was a reduced workforce at the Missourian. I had photographers Megen Matty and Olivia Anderson file photos during the game while I edited them simultaneously. By doing so, I had enough time to work on the print design with designer Shulei Jiang to meet the early print deadline.
